- Bio:
Judy Catambay is a California-based artist, educator and community muralist. Judy worked for many years as a mixed-media painter, and was drawn to ceramics as a means to create free flowing forms. She brings a painter’s technique to her sculptural ceramic work through layers of glazes with rich textures and saturated colors. She draws inspiration from elements and creatures in the natural world - exploring themes of beauty and decay, light and loss, and our place in nature as guardians. She works with ever-changing forms, allowing chance, spontaneity and personal narratives to guide the process. Judy Catambay studied painting at San Jose State University and Sheffield Polytechnic School of Art. She started up art programs in mental health and affordable housing projects in the Bay Area. She led neighborhood community art projects and murals, including street paintings. She believes community art has the power to create a meaningful connection while adding beauty and vibrancy to our surroundings. She has been an art teacher and mentor for many years, and is currently an art educator at DJUSD with the goal of inspiring creativity and wonder in her students. She is available for murals and private art lessons.
